While staying in Lake Placid in the early 1920s, he produced some of his finest winter landscapes. In this image, probably rendered on New Years in 1925, he depicted a view looking down on the village of Saranac Lake and the Saranac River, capturing the way that the heavy snowfall blended architectural forms into natural landscape, creating an overall unity of tone and a feeling of deep quietude.
