Signed 'Oskar Moll' in greyish green lower right. We would like to thank Gerhard Leistner, Wenzenbach, for kind advice. The painting has been included in the new forthcoming catalogue raisonné. Between 1903 and 1905 Oskar Moll resided at Höhenroth Castle in Wildenroth near Grafrath in the proximity of Fürstenfeldbruck in Upper Bavaria. During these years, a series of impressionistic paintings were created in the terminal moraine landscape of the immediate surroundings. Close-up, Moll reproduced the Amper, a tributary of the Isar river, flowing sluggishly through the meadows and floodplains, attractively reflecting the willows standing on the banks. Moll's close friendship with his artist colleague Fritz Behrendt dates back to this period. Behrendt established himself as a successful artist's paint manufacturer in Grafrath and from then on Moll obtained his paints.
