Stoitzner’ Gilded stucco frame Dimensions of panel: 21 x 16 cm This oil sketch by Austrian painter Konstantin Stoitzner was presumably made around 1900 and depicts an elderly man with weather-beaten facial features and a hat. He is holding something in his hands, probably needle and thread. At the upper left the painting is signed ‘K. Stoitzner’. Image and gold-plated stucco frame show signs of age and wear. The edges of the panel bear color flaking where the frame has rubbed. At the lower left the varnished surface is retouched. The dimensions of the panel are 21 x 16 cm, while the framed dimensions measure 34 x 29 cm. Konstantin Stoitzner (1863-1934) Konstantin (also known as Constantin) Stoitzner was born in Chrostau (today Chrastavec in the Czech Republic) and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. He worked in Vienna as a freelance artist and was the head of the Association of Austrian Artists between 1914 and 1923.
