It shows is a reclining woman, wearing a patterned dress with flowers and leaves. With a seductive look and confident expression she seems to look right into the eyes of the beholder. This is a characteristic motif of the artist Elvira Bach, who is known for her vividly colored neo-expressionist portraits of women, often reflecting themes of her own life. The similarity of the images with her own person are unmistakable. The works from the early 80s treat mostly the subject of the self-centered 'I', sometimes in the form of a 'Sophisticated Lady'. This art work is in a very good condition. It is signed and dated lower left as well as verso 'Bach, 2006'. The frame shows slight signs of wear. The sheets size is 100 x 140 cm. The overall dimensions framed are 111 x 150 cm. Elvira Bach (born 1951) Elvira Bach was born in 1951 in Neuenhain. She is a German postmodern painter and well known for her colorful depictions of women. Bach studied at the State Glass School Hadamar and at the Berlin University of the Arts. She undertook study trips to the Dominican Republic, Senegal, Saint Lucia, and Italy. She took part at documenta 7 in 1982. Together with painters like Bernd Koberling, Luciano Castelli, Rainer Fetting, Helmut Middendorf, Salomé and Bernd Zimmer, Bach is a member of the Junge Wilde group. This cheerful and positive style was meant to break with the previous cerebral artistic trends. Today, Bach lives and works in Berlin.
