Mary Elizabeth Price, "Home Garden I" oil and gold leaf on masonite. Signed lower right "M Elizabeth Price"; titled and signed on the reverse. Masonite: 50''H x 17.5''W; Frame: 53.5''H x 21''W. Presented in a custom frame by Bernard Badura, verso of frame is carved with his initials "BB" and inscribed "Frame by Badura New Hope, PA. M69". Mary Elizabeth Price (American/Pennsylvania, 1877-1965) was a Bucks County, PA artist known for her floral compositions. She was a member of the New Hope Art Colony founded by William Langson Lathrop. Artists found the area appealing because of its picturesque surroundings along the Delaware River. During her career Mary Elizabeth Price participated in notable exhibitions such as the Corcoran Biennial, National Academy of Design, and in 1927 she won the Carnegie Prize for the best oil painting by an American Artist. Provenance: Descended in the family of a New Hope, Pennsylvania Estate.
