Charles Warren Eaton American, 1857-1937 Yellow Leaf Signed Chas. Warren Eaton (ll); inscribed The Yellow Leaf/Chas Warren Eaton/Bloomfield, N.J. on an old label on the stretcher Oil on canvas 20 x 24 inches Provenance: Private collection Yellow Leaf was painted during Eaton's years in Bloomfield, New Jersey, from 1888 to about 1900. Next to Montclair, which was closely associated with George Inness, Bloomfield was a place where Eaton strongly felt the presence of Inness, whose studio was adjacent to Eaton's in New York's Holbein Building. Inness dropped in on Eaton in 1889, and his son at some point shared a studio with Eaton in Montclair. In this view of an autumnal landscape in the half light of morning, Eaton's emphasis was the range of brilliant yellows in the trees, which he captured with yellow pigments ranging from the orange to the green end of the spectrum.
