In Midsummer Night, which demonstrates his incorporation of an Impressionist technique after the turn of the century, he expressed greater optimism. The warm light, the combination of new and old growth trees, and the lively brushwork create an enticing scene. This is enhanced by the path, one easily trod by visitors across flat terrain that satisfyingly leads to a viewpoint overlooking a valley. Until recently, this painting was in Eaton's estate, which was inherited by his childhood friend, Samuel Foster, and passed down to in Foster's family.
