William Mark (1868-1956) - An early 20th Century Arts and Crafts silvered copper jug with hinged cover and pearwood handle, the planished surface engraved - "N.F from M.E.A & J.F.A. 19 Feb 1915", 8.5ins high, the base engraved - "W.Mark, Campden, Glos" Note: Mark left his native Australia in 1895, travelling first to South Africa and then London. He became a member of the Guild of Handicraft in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire in 1902. The Guild closed in 1907 and Mark and three associates established the Guild of Handicraft which ran until 1912. In that year Mark established his own workshop, remaining in Chipping Campden until 1920 in which year he returned to Australia. As a Silversmith and Enameller in the arts and craft style his work included ecclesiastical, metalwork, jewellery and silverware.
