Beautiful double-barrelled gun from the personal property of the king. Smooth, round, blued, damask barrels, with rib signed "Devisme brevete a Paris" beautifully decorated at the edges with gold inlays depicting foliage and animals, at the tang the effigy of a flying bird; forward spring percussion lock, decorated en suite and signed in gothic character "Devisme a Paris" on one plate, and "Devisme bre.te" on the other; stock of fine briarwood, sculpted with floral motifs at the handle; at the back a silver shield with monogram "CA" surmounted by the royal crown; at the butt-plate gold inlays depicting a seated dog with mask and Savoy cross and the inscription "ID ATANS MO: ASTRE". Wooden ramrod with tip and cartridge extractor. Typical work of the exceptional Parisian manufacture that used to produce its pieces especially for aristocrats and high rank figures.provenance: Paris Charles Albert (Turin 2 October 1798 - Oporto 28 July 1849) was King of Sardinia, King of Cyprus and Jerusalem, Prince of Piedmont, Duke of Savoy and Genoa from 1831 to 1849, seventh Prince of Carignano from 1800 to 1849, and Count of Barge from 1800 until the day he died. His name is indelibly bound to the first Italian Statute - known as the Albertine Statute- the constitution that King Charles Albert conceded to the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia in Italy. The Statuto later became the constitution of the unified Kingdom of Italy and remained in force, with changes, until 1948.
