A Chinese Scroll Painting by Wang Xi Meng (1360 x 53cm) Wang Ximeng, a famous painter in the late Northern Song Dynasty, is one of the only talented young people in the history of Chinese painting who has left a lasting impression with just one painting. However, there is no record of him in historical books. Wang Ximeng entered the palace at the age of over ten to study painting as a student, but initially did not have much work. Emperor Huizong of Song, Zhao Jishi, was a student of the School of Painting and Calligraphy. Later, he was summoned to the Forbidden Chinese Library and served under Emperor Huizong. Emperor Huizong of Song had a unique insight and believed that "its nature can be taught," so he personally taught it the method. Wang Ximeng was personally instructed by Zhao Ji on brush and ink techniques, and his art became refined, surpassing the limits of conventional painting. In April of the third year of the Zhenghe reign of Emperor Huizong (1113), Wang Ximeng spent half a year finally painting the masterpiece "Thousand Miles of Mountains and Rivers", a masterpiece that will last forever. He was only eighteen years old at the time.
