Willi Geiger (1878-1971) Willi Geiger was a German artist and worked as a painter, draftsman, graphic artist, illustrator and caricaturist. He is the father of the painter and sculptor Rupprecht Geiger (1908–2009). During his education Geiger studied at first at the Academy of Applied Art in Munich, later at the Technical University and at the Academy of Arts in Munich, where he was a pupil of Franz von Stuck (painting) and Peter Halm (etching). Before the First World War Geiger lived in Berlin for some time and had his works on display in the famous galleries of Paul Cassirer and Fritz Gurlitt. Several journeys and longer stays took him to Spain through the years where he was delighted with the paintings of the great Spanish masters such as Goya, Velasquez and El Greco, whose works he later copied. His art was classified as 'degenerated' and damned by the National Socialists. After World War II Geiger was professor at the Academy in Munich. His early works are influenced by impressionism and by the linear ornamentation of Jugendstil, later he pointed to expressionism.
