AN ALLAN LINE POSTER FOR THE S.S. VIRGINIAN, CIRCA 1905 after Fred Pansing (1844-1919) and depicting a liner profile entitled New Turbine Triple Screw Steamers "Victorian" & "Virginian" 12,000 tons each, with sailing details in a border below -- 28 x 38.5in. (71 x 98cm.). Framed and glazed Launched in 1905, the Virginian was one of the ships caught up in the dramatic sinking of Titanic in 1912. Her radio operator was one of the first to respond to the new SOS signal and race to the scene. She survived until 1951 when she was broken up at Trieste. ++Three vertical marks, possibly folding marks or previous mounting marks; small chip to glass top left which has left a section under the glass. Later frame adds about 1in. to each dimension only.
