Differential taxation is not possible Rosemarie Pierer, the Grande Dame of photography, was regarded a pioneer of multi vision in the fifties. At the young age of eight it was her biggest wish to get her own camera. Pierer is known for her photographs that are beautiful in the combination of highest technical standards with artful composition. Depicted here is the German publisher Ernst Rowohlt (1887-1960). He founded the Rowohlt Verlag in 1908 in Leipzig. The photograph is inscribed verso in ballpen ‘Der Verleger Ernst Rowohlt’ and bears two photographer’s stamps and two copyright stamps Rosemarie Pierer. The writing in ballpen from the reverse is pressing through to the front. On the surface are scratches and slight handling creases. The dimensions are 29.8 x 21.1 cm. Rosemarie Pierer (1918-2012) The German Photographer Rosemarie Pierer was born in Bernburg, but moved to Hamburg in 1949, where she founded her own studio. The famous photograph and model Inge Schönthal, later Feltrinelli, was trained by the Grande Dame of German photography in the 1950s. Pierer worked for the ‘Thalia-Theater’ and for many different companies, such as Beiersdorf, Deutsche Airbus, Philips, Chamber of Commerce in Hamburg, Maico. In her last years she concentrated again on portrait-photographs, among others Architect Hadi Teherani and former chancellor Helmut Schmidt.
