Scholars have divided Birger Sandzen's body of work into different periods of style and subject emphasis. The Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery archives confirm that #2437, Pines by the Lake, Estes Park, Colorado, 1923, was sold from the Gallery collection prior to 1993 and held in the collection of Jack Goldstein from at least 1998 until his passing.
