Oil on copper glued to panel. Antique 19th century frame in carved and gilded wood. The work is attributed to Hieronymus Francken III who followed the style of his father Frans Francken the Younger (1581-1642) They collaborated on numerous works, although Hieronymus' figures are often more imposing. At least two versions of this Slaughter of the Innocents attributed to Hieronymus have appeared on the international art market in recent years, with slight variations in support and composition (see Bonhams OMP 2019, lot 66 and Sotheby's OMP, May 2004, lot 24). .36 x 68 cm
