Thomas Eldred (New York / Michigan, 1903-1993) untitled abstract, 1944 gouache / ink on paper signed lower right. From Ask Art: Born in Climax, Michigan, Thomas Eldred became a painter in abstract style, printmaker, and teacher who lived in Climax, Upper Nyack, New York, and Grove City, Pennsylvania where he died in 1993. He credited William Stanley Hayter as a major influence on his painting style. Eldred studied at Kalamazoo College in Michigan, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Art Students League with Thomas Hart Benton and Guy Pene duBois.
