Oil on canvas, 30 x 60 inches. Signed "Fred Pansing" l.l.The "City of Lowell" was a passenger steamer built by Bath Iron Works and delivered in 1894 to the Norwich & New York Transportation Co. for use on Long Island Sound. Providing overnight service between New York and New London, Connecticut, with connecting rail service to Boston and Worcester, the ship was in commercial operation until 1939.Provenance: Sanford & Patricia Smith Gallery, New York, March 1983.
