Sergey Chekhonin (Russia, 1878-1936) unframed clown abstract watercolor signed to lower right in Cyrillic "Chekhonin" and dated 1926. Measures 15-3/4" in height with width of 9-1/2" and has a sight image height of 11" with width of 7". In overall good condition with tape marks from previously placed label, which is no longer in existence. All measurements are approximate. Russian Constructivist, also known as "Chekhonin", together with Narbut and Vasili Mitrokhin, Sergey Vasil'evich Tchehonine Chekhonin belongs to the second generation of the World of Art, the so-called artists who entered the union in the 1910s. Widely known as a graphics artist and creator of the so-called propaganda porcelain, he illustrated many Soviet publications, and even managed to invent a completely original way of multi-color printing on fabric.
