Alexandre Gregoire (Haitian/Jacmel, 1922-2001) Village Wash Day, c. 1968, Oil on masonite, 24 x 24 in. Unframed Provenance: Private New Jersey Collection; Kurt Bachmann Collection Lot Essay: A musician and military saxophone player, Gregoire, with the encouragement of the artists Gerard Valcin and Prefete Duffaut, joined the Centre d'Art, Port-au-Prince, in the late 1950s. Gregoire is renowned for the whimsy of his Vodou inspired and everyday scenes.
