THEODORE M. WENDEL (MA/OH, 1859-1932) Italian Lake Villas, oil on canvas, signed verso (concealed by relining but with photo), an unfinished study by one of Frank Duveneck''s Italian Circle who also studied under Monet, in ornate deep cove gilt gesso frame with name plate, OS: 41" x 60", SS: 31" x 50 1/2". Cleaned and relined. Note verso reads "This painting signed on the back "Wendel", was in the collection of Prof. Eberhardt who taught Art at Yale - himself a renowned sculptor. The painting was again part of his son''s (Burt Eberhardt) collection, River Road, Newcastle, Maine. Painting repaired June 1981, photo is of the signature before it was relined and covered by new linen." From a Newcastle, ME home.
