TWO-SIDED PORTRAIT. 1956. Two paintings glued in one from the reverse, oil on cardboard, 100x70 cm, signed and dated lower right „Matal 56“. In a series of paintings from the 1950‘s, Matal dealt with space division and it‘s mirroring. A woman is usually sitting in an armchair in the middle of an ordinary interior. However, the figures are without faces as if they themselves were things, static objects of mirroring. Provenance: Private collection, Brno. The father of the current owner gained the painting directly from the artist in the 1980’s. OBOUSTRANNÝ PORTRÉT. 1956. Dvojice maleb slepených zády v jednu, olej na lepence, 100x70 cm, sign. a dat. vpravo dole „Matal 56“. V řadě obrazů z padesátých let se Matal zabýval rozdělením prostoru a jeho zmnožením pomocí odrazu zrcadel. V křesle většinou sedí čelem žena uprostřed všedního interiéru pokoje. Figury jsou však bez tváře, a tak jako by se samy stávaly věcmi, statickými objekty zrcadlení. Dílo pochází ze soukromé sbírky v Brně, otcem současné majitelky získáno v 80. letech přímo od autora.
