GIACOMO ZOBOLI (Modena, 1681 – Roma, 1767) Saint Catherine of Alexandria Oil on canvas, 61.5 x 50 cm The painting depicts the saint with her eyes looking up, a typical feature of Reni’s workshop. It is depicted with jewels, like the brooch on the chest, to underline her princely origin: in fact the woman was the daughter of a king educated in the liberal arts. The bright colors, combined with an eclectic taste and a reworking of the Emilian tradition, refer to the artistic quality of Zoboli.
