DENIJS CALVAERT (Antwerp, 1540 - Bologna, 1619) St Francis supported by angels Last decade of the sixteenth century Oil on copper, 34.5 x 28 cm The work in question is attributed to Denijs Calvaert, a Flemish painter. He started his training in Antwerp focusing primarily on landscapes, but once in Bologna, he specialized in the nude embracing the Italian style. Arrived in Rome, in 1570, he studied Raphael and, few years later, he founded a school in Bologna in which Guido Reni, Domenichino and Francesco Albani studied.
