Oil on canvas, margins relined Monogrammed lower right “F.v.M.” Dimensions: 65.5 x 100 cm Frame: 74 x 110 cm Large atmospheric landscape painting with picturesque figures, in the manner of Alessandro Magnasco, also known as Il Lissandrino (1667-1749) The peaceful scene with the washerwomen and the children is depicted under a group of old oaks. The wide landscape opens to the right and gives a clear view of a village and a mountain range, which are painted impressionistic with broad brushstrokes. The dramatic color of the sky completes the scenery. Condition: The painting is in good condition, consistent with age, there is some light craquelure throughout the painting. The inspection under UV light reveals small areas of retouching spread over the image. The plain, gilded frame has several small flaking and the corners have been partially restored.
