oil on canvas, signed and dated 1970 at lower left, inscribed Speight on the top stretcher, presented in the likely original gilt frame with linen liner. SS 23.5 x 27.5 in.; DOA 31 x 35 in. This painting depicts the Tayloe House in Bertie County beyond a field of peanut stacks. An almost identical painting dated 1971 and with a similar title, Tayloe House, is owned by the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington, NC. The Cameron's painting is illustrated in The Privilege to Paint: The Lives of Francis Speight and Sarah Blakeslee by Maurice York.
