The painting depicts five shetani in various colors on light blue background. It is decorated with further ornamental and geometric forms. The calabash can be put at the ceiling. The item is signed ‘Lilanga’ on the picture surface. It is in good condition with slight signs of use. It’s diameter is 32 cm. George Lilanga George Lilanga was born 1934 in Nandimba, Mozambique. As a refugee in Tanzania he was dedicated to the art of the Makonde and represented this culture in various techniques and materials, such as sculptures, paintings and etchings. His works were exhibited in Europe, Asia, Africa and USA, for example the Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao, Spain, the Hiroshima City Modern Art Museum in Japan and the Museum of Fine Art in Houston, USA.
