The background is rendered in shades of blue and turquois and is interrupted by angular shapes shaded in black and white. Máro’s paintings are deeply influenced by his teacher Willi Baumeister, who was one of the most important representatives of classical modernism and the avant-garde movement of the 1940s to the 1950s in Germany. Baumeister created non-figural works that were closely related to the artistic output of El Lissitzky, Kazimir Malevich, Vassily Kandinsky, Fernand Léger and Le Corbusier. Condition: The painting is in very good condition with minimal marks, where the frame has rubbed. The stretcher measures 95 x 100 cm, the framed overall dimensions are 99 x 104 cm. Antonio Máro (b. 1928) Born in Northern Peru, Antonio Máro received his first artistic training from the Belgian Ricardo Grau, active as director of the Academy of Art of Lima at that time. He then moved to Germany to study medicine, but he also attended the classes of Willi Baumeister as an art student. His intellectual roots are based on pre-Columbian art and culture of his native country Peru. Máro lives in Belgium, today. His son Rafael Ramírez has also decided to become a painter.
