It depicts a typical abstract composition of the artist. The background is rendered in shades of blue and grey and is interrupted by a rectangular shape that goes from black to white, gray and blue. Some splashes of color in green and black enhance the composition with small accents. Influenced by his teacher Willi Baumeister, one of the most important representatives of classical modernism and the avant-garde of the 1940s to the 1950s in Germany, he created non-figural works close to the artistic creation of such important artists such as El Lissitzky, Kazimir Malevich, Vasily Kandinsky, Fernand Léger and Le Corbusier. The painting is signed lower right, 'Máro'. It is in good condition with minor scratches and areas of abrasion. The frame is slightly chipped. The overall dimensions, framed, are 123 x 112 cm. The stretcher measures 119 x 110 cm. Antonio Máro (b. 1928) Born in northern Peru, Antonio Máro received his first artistic training with the Belgian Ricardo Grau, who was at the time director of the Academy of Art of Lima. He then went for medical studies to Germany and studied with Willi Baumeister. His intellectual roots are based on the pre-Columbian art and culture of his native Peru. Máro today lives in Belgium.
