Willroider’ With estate stamp ‘Aus dem Nachlass Ludwig Willroider’ on the stretcher an canvas on the reverse Dimensions: 25 x 42 cm Frame: 40 x 57 cm Good condition Willroider shows a wooded landscape with bathers at a lake, executed in a muted color palette and loose, quick brushstrokes, making the influence of Impressionism significantly more distinct Influenced by plein air painting Willroiders early landscapes visualize a harmonious treatment of light and shades under a mostly clouded sky. Around the turn of the century the influence of Impressionism becomes more significant, characterized by rather loose and quickly set brushstrokes. Condition: The oil painting is overall in good condition, the newer varnish is lightly darkened, presumably some retouching in the area of the water. The image dimensions are 25 x 42 cm, the framed dimensions 40 x 57 cm. Ludwig Willroider (1845-1910) Ludwig Willroider was born in Austrian Carinthia in 1845. He received his first painting lessons by his brother Josef Willroider. In the mid-1860s he left Austria to study at the Academy in Munich where he was educated and inspired by Eduard Schleich the Elder (1812-1874) and Adolf Lier (1826-1882). In addition, he belonged to the circle of Christian Friedrich Mali (1832-1906) and Anton Braith (1836-1905). Willroider received several awards for his exhibitions in the Munich Glass Palace.
