DESCRIPTION: Abraham Straski (Polish, 1903-1987). Oil on canvas. Full length portrait of a Rabbi falling asleep while studying. His eyeglasses are hanging onto one ear as his head rests on his hand. A three light candelabra is on the arm of the bench to his left. Signed in lower right corner "A. Straski". In copper colored wooden frame with fabric liner. Straski was a Polish born painter who immigrated to the United States after surviving the concentration camps during the Holocaust. As he grew up, he became close with the Rabbis from his local community who taught him violin, cello, and Torah. He draws inspiration from these Rabbis for his artwork. MEASUREMENTS: 23-5/8" x 19-5/8". Overall with frame 31-1/8" x 27-1/8". CONDITION: One small paint flake in upper center. Light surface wear to frame.
