John Arthur Lomax (Manchester 1857-1923), Oil on canvas, ' The Story of the Elopement ' Signed lower right, 34 1/2 x 50 1/2" Lomax was known for a series of paintings illustrating the before and after of married life. This painting was turned into a popular print, two of which now now hang in the National Trust properties of Lanhydrock, Cornwall and Erddig , Wrexham.
