In scale brushstrokes, individually placed side by side, the artist solves the motif into a mosaic of brush strokes in red and brownish pastel colors. Inheriting almost the entire space of the composition appears the portrayed in brown clothing in front of n abstracted, with greenish and orange colors dotted background. This picture is a fine example of late Impressionism from the period around 1915, which still echoes the idea of Pointillism. Köhler- Roeber mastered the technique brilliantly and shows its distinctive individual style, yet reveals some influences of the Expressionists and can be considered as yet to be discovered female artist. Verso on the frame is the label by the estate, no. 396. The painting is framed 'flying' in a wooden frame behind glass. It is in very good condition with minimal marginal wear. The painting cardboard measures 45 x 19 cm and the total dimensions, including the frame, are 58 x 33.5 cm. Minna Kohler-Roeber (1883-1957) Köhler-Roeber was a German painter of the late impressionism. She trained under the French painter Mayer-Blaise in Dresden. In 1906, she went to the painting school of Johannes Walter-Kurau in Dresden, where she mainly painted landscapes. There, she learned the theory of colour and light by Walter-Kurau. Alongside her studies, she did an apprenticeship as weaver and draftswoman at the City Higher Weaver and Spinning School Reichenbach from 1914 to 1915. Later, she visited the Arts College of W. von Debschitz in Munich, and was influenced by the artists group Blaue Reiter. In 1920, she became a member of the Association of German-Austrian Female Artist and in 1952 a member of the Association of Fine Artists of Germany.
