Köhler-Roeber 22' Verso on stretcher and frame with label of the artist's estate and inscribed with the catalogue raisonné number '166' Catalogue raisonné number: 166 Beautiful black-and-gold gallery frame Overall dimensions, framed: 35 x 39.5 cm Very good condition Provenance: Estate of the artist Harmonious landscape composition in impasto colors from the artist's early creative period; works by Minna Köhler-Roeber are rare on the international auction market This painting from Minna Köhler-Roeber's early creative period depicts a view of a landscape with a small village, which occupies the center of the composition, surrounded by mountains. In scale juxtaposed dabs of color the artist dissolves the motif into a mosaic of brush strokes in muted shades of green and brown. The color mosaic creates an image, which does not reach abstraction to the highest degree, but allows the viewer to still recognize certain forms. Köhler-Roeber brilliantly mastered the technique and due to her distinctively individual style, which reveals expressionist influences, can be considered as a yet to be discovered female artist. The painting is in very good condition. The picture is signed and dated lower left 'M. Köhler-Roeber 22' and bears the label of the artist's estate on the stretcher and frame and inscribed with the catalogue raisonné number '166' on the verso. The frame shows only slight signs of wear. The framed work measures 35 x 39.5 cm, the stretcher frame measures 22 x 26.5 cm. Minna Köhler-Roeber (1883-1957) Minna Köhler-Roeber was a German painter of the late impressionist movement. She trained under the French painter Mayer-Blaise in Dresden. In 1906 she attended the painting school of Johannes Walter-Kurau, where she mainly painted landscapes. There she discovered Walter-Kurau's theory of color and light. Alongside her studies she completed an apprenticeship as a weaver and draftswoman from 1914 to 1915. Later she studied at the school of Wilhelm von Debschitz in Munich and became increasingly influenced by the artists group 'Blaue Reiter'. In 1920 she became a member of the GEDOK (Organization of German and Austrian Female Artists) and in 1952 a member of the 'Verband Bildender Künstler Deutschlands'.
