William Frederick Mitchell (1845-1914) The HMS Medea No.2009, 1901 Watercolour & gouache Signed & dated lower right 16.5 x 25 cm LITERATURE: HMS Medea was the first and name ship of the Medea class of 5 2nd class very fast cruisers. Built at the Chatham Dockyard & completed in 1889. She was probably sold in 1914 for scrap. OTHER NOTES: Accompanying the work is an early 20th Century photographic postcard depicting the ship + Dixon, Conrad.
