Le Prevost\ Havre\ 1864, lower center US Steam Gun Boat "Iroquois" Commander Rogers; Verso: Antique watercolor "US Steam Gun-Boat 'Iroquois' Commander Rogers",\ A fine and delicate scene, very peaceful with ship reflected on calm water.\ Seven sails drying, American flag on mizzen gaff, 3 masts, clipper bow,\ black hull & ship funnel. Two tiny gigs with canvas sun shades nearby,\ one with sweeps. Square-rigger in background. Signed lower right "A.\ Le Prevost Havre 1864". One-half inch gold ropelike frame, overall 13"x11"\ This second-class screw sloop had an interesting civil war career & one\ of active (though antiquated) service into the 1880's, described in "The\ Navy" by Fletcher Pratt.\ Purchased from Samuel L.
