The current highest auction record for a similar oil painting by Grünwald is approximately €70,000 The present oil painting by Béla Iványi Grünwald (1867-1940) testifies to his employment with the plein air painting, which he pursued in Nagybánya from 1896. On the basis of the achievements of the French naturalists, he explored the incidences of light at different times of the day and created compositions that show people in harmony with nature. While the landscape background is applied with impasto and dynamic splashes of color, the female nudes in the foreground display a finer execution with strengthening outlines. The painting is signed with 'Ivanyi Grünwald' lower right and mounted in a beautiful ornate frame. It is in good condition, showing light abrasion and framing marks. The frame is in very good condition. The overall dimensions, including the frame, are 79 x 98 cm. The stretcher is 60 x 80 cm in size. Béla Iványi Grünwald (1867-1940) Bela Ivanyi Grunwald studied under Bertalan Székely and Károly Lotz at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest. He then completed his studies in Munich and at the Académie Julian in Paris. In 1896, he went to Nagybánya (today Romania), in order to devote himself to plein air painting and became a member of the local artists' colony.
