Sonderborg; his paintings of similar sizes sell for more than 40,000 euros in the international auction market The present work of K.R.H. Sonderborg dates from 1989 and is titled 'Chikago'. As a representative of the informal art that had emerged in the 1940s in Paris, Sonderborg created works with abstract and spontaneous compositions. The work process was subject to the subconscious. The present painting is characterized by the contrast between black and red as well as planar and splashed shapes. The work is signed and dated in the lower part of the painting, 'Sonderborg 89'. It is in good condition with scattered material-related cracquelure. The wooden frame shows minimal wear. The overall dimensions, framed, are 122 x 90 cm. The stretcher measures 112 x 81 cm. K.R.H. Sonderborg (1923-2008) Born in Denmark, the painter K.R.H. Sonderborg (Kurt Rudolf Hoffmann) is considered an important artist of the German Informel. Despite the art historical association with this movement, the artist preserved his own style. From 1965 to 1990, Sonderborg was professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart. From 1969 to 1970, he was a visiting professor at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and, in 1986, a visiting professor at the Art Institute in Chicago.
