A dried up river bed directs the viewer's attention towards a cottage located somewhat elevated in front of a wooded mountain chain. The quite detailed execution testifies to the admiration and love which connects the artist with the Black Forest. Therefore it is not surprising that his Œuvre is characterized by a variety of Black Forest motifs. The painting is signed and dated 'K. Hauptmann 34' and verso inscribed by unknown hand, titled and dated 'Original Karl Kaufmann. Feldberg. 1934'. It shows selective, barely noticeable pressure marks in the wooden panel. The varnish is weakly yellowed, otherwise in good condition. The display measures 50 x 60 cm, the framed dimensions are 58 x 68 cm. The frame shows slight signs of use. Karl Hauptmann (1880-1947) Karl Hauptmann was born 1880 in Freiburg im Breisgau. He was educated in Munich and Nuremberg and since then worked as a freelance artist. After his military service, he settled on a cottage at mountain Herzogenhorn, where maintained his studio until his death.
