The square composition in purple and white is made in the style of the artist and represents its universal visual language with concentrated dynamic. The work is hand signed lower right 'K.O. Götz' as well as signed and dated on the reserve 'O.T., 2002, K.O. Götz'. The work of Karl Otto Götz (born 1914) is in very good condition. It has framed overall dimension of 18 x 18 cm and the image itself measures 7 x7 cm. It is one of the smallest works ever painted by the artist and in this takes a special position within his generally very large-format oeuvre. Karl Otto Götz Karl Otto Götz was born in February 1914 in Aachen and is considered as the main representative of the German abstract and informel art. Goetz attended the arts college in Aachen and while there, occupied himself primarily with the avant-garde painting. His early work was characterized by Expressionism and Surrealism, where he was influenced by works of Max Ernst, Juan Gris, Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee. In the 1950s, he began increasingly to paint the dissolution of forms and figures. Two years later, he began to produce works in mixed technique in the informel style, which made him internationally one of the most important representatives of the Informel and action painting. In his late creative period, he was concerned with historical events, which he interpreted in his typical style of painting. The Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin has just given the 100-year-old artist a comprehensive retrospective exhibition, showing his works from the past fifty years.
