Spectacular scenery with a view of Monaco Bay in golden decorated frame Overall dimensions framed: 76 x 95.5 cm Very good condition The painter Erick Mercker is specialized in atmospheric landscapes and industrial portraits, his paintings fetch up to 15,000 euros at international auctions This painting by the German painter Erich Mercker was created some time during the 1930s. It depicts a spectacular view of the coastline of Monte Carlo overlooking the Bay of Monaco and Monaco Ville in the background. Mercker always manages to capture a very special atmosphere in his paintings, executed in a pastel if a little muted color palette. In the present painting the cypress trees in the foreground, a so-called repoussoir, direct the viewer's gaze into the distance. Special depth and perspective are generated here by using bluish nuances and the scaling of different image planes in the foreground, middle ground and background. Particularly atmospheric effects are created by the illuminated cloud formations and the reflections on the water surface. Mercker seems to have liked the subject of our painting particularly, since he painted several versions of this view. The painting is signed and inscribed lower right 'E. Mercker. Mchn.' and is in very good condition with only minimal signs of age and wear. The frame shows slight signs of use as well. The stretcher measures 60.5 x 80 cm. The overall framed dimensions are 76 x 95.5 cm. Erich Mercker (1891-1973) Trained as a construction engineer Erich Mercker began with painting as an autodidact in 1915.
