STUDIO OF SEVERIN ROESEN 1815-c. 1872 Fruit Composition with Tazza of Strawberries, c. 1860.* Another rendition of this image is shown in Judith Hansen O'Toole's Severin Roesen (Bucknell University Press, Lewisburg, Penn., 1992). She describes the image: "The above noted painting is a still life in a vertical format showing various fruits arranged on two marble shelves - one shelf positioned above the other. Grapes, peaches, plums, pears, currants, cherries, apples, berries, and a slice of watermelon are presented in profusion laid directly on the marble surface, with the only exception being a Parian tazza of strawberries, the stem of which is decorated with carved morning glories and roses". Provenance: Gertrude Brownlee, Missouri, about 1860. By descent in the family to Garrett Lind, Palm Beach, Florida, until 2003. Menconi & Schoelkopf Fine Art, New York. Private Collection, Washington, D.C., in 2003. *Description provided by Judith Hansen O'Toole in a letter dated December 4, 2003. Oil on canvas laid down on panel, 30" x 23.5".
