The painting depicts the Southern Italian town of Fasano, located in the beautiful Apulia region, known as a delightful wine-growing area and seaside resort. Mediterranean agaves and palm trees build the foreground of the composition, behind lies a path, leading into the town, and in the background towers a stately manor. Fresh green colours dominate the image and Kuhfuss has placed accents in pastel colours, bestowing the landscape with warmth. The oil painting is signed lower right 'Kuhfuss'. It is listed in the catalogue raisonné Paul Kuhfuss under the number 30/38. It is inscribed verso with the address of his studio 'Paul KUHFUSS, Berlin Pankow, Amalien-Park 7, L= 69 x 54, Ölgrund'. The painting is in good condition with minor traces of age and wear. Framing marks are visible all around on the surface when unframed. The painting was recently cleaned. The frame shows the usual traces of age and wear. The work is 65 x 80 cm in size, including the frame. The dimensions of the wooden panel are 54 x 69 cm. Paul Kuhfuss (1883-1960) Paul Kuhfuss started an apprenticeship as a drawing teacher at the Royal Art School Berlin before studying landscape painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts from 1905 onwards. After graduating from university, he was active as a professor at the Academy. A large number of his works are listed in the Paul-Kuhfuss-Archive. He took part in exhibitions of the Free Secession, the Berlin Secession, the German Art Association, the Union of Fine Artists of the GDR, as well as at the Great Berlin Art Exhibitions in 1913 and 1960. In 1960 Paul Kuhfuss was awarded with the 'Großer Kunstpreis'.
