작품 상세

Large painting by outside artist Purvis Young (1943-2010). Imagery includes cars, buildings and figures. Purvis Young of Overtown, Miami served three years in a North Florida prison, significant in that many self-taught expressionists learned to paint in prison. He was discovered in the early 1970s in Overtown after plastering his artwork on the side of an abandoned building in "Good Bread Alley." The idea was inspired by "The Wall of Respect" in Chicago. Young primarily painted with house paint and found materials. His work is included in over 60 museums including the Smithsonian (Washington DC).
