Johann Nepomuk Franz Xaver Strixner (1782 Altötting - 1855 Munich) after Martin Schongauer (around 1430 Colmar - 1491 Breisach): Mary Magdalene, Mourner, Incunabulum of Lithography, 19th century, Lithography Technique: Lithography on Paper Date: 19th century Description: Signed "M. Schoen pinx. / N. Strixner del." under the depiction. "From the high altar of Wettenhausen. Breast piece, head inclined to the left and completely covered by white cloth. View of hands crossed in front of chest, in which she holds a cloth. Chalk, limited." (Winkler: The Early Period of German Lithography, p. 361). Strixner learned engraving from Dorner in 1799. Employed as a draughtsman 1803 at the electoral gallery in Munich. From 1806 he tried his hand at lithography and from 1810 he published the Oeuvres Lithographiques.
