A Small Private Collection of Early 20th Century German Works on Paper, Brought to this Country for Safekeeping Before the Onset of World War II August Macke (1887-1914) - Double sided pencil and charcoal studies - Half-length portrait of young woman reading, her left hand supporting her cheek, an open book before her, together with two ink head studies, the verso with study of the same sitter, her head bowed in concentration, 8.25ins x 11.5ins, both sides signed in pencil and dated '06, unframed Note: The sitter may be identified with a detailed study dated 1907 and titled "Ottilie Macke Stickend" - Sold at Grisebach, Berlin - 25th November 2011 - Lot 248 Provenance: The Collection of a German Academic prior to World War I and thence by family descent.
