A characteristic feature of these are simultaneous events being captured in the reflections of the window glass. In 1913 Macke compiled his showcase images into the subject of elegantly dressed ladies standing before the window of a hat shop. In this watercolor he further extends the figure of the lady into a group of girls, who are composed of clear, contrasting forms within the meaning of Cubism, instantly attracting the eye of the viewer. August Macke (1887-1914) A native of the Upper Sauerland, August Macke was one of the most famous German Expressionist painter. In 1904, he began an apprenticeship at the Royal Art Academy Dusseldorf. At the same time, he took courses at the local arts and crafts school. On a trip to Paris in 1907, he learned about Impressionism and subsequently completed his training with the German Impressionist Lovis Corinth in Berlin. In 1909, Macke traveled again to Paris, where he encountered the works of the Fauves and futurists. In 1910, he got to know Franz Marc, and a year later he worked with him and Wassily Kandinsky on the publication of the almanac ‘Der Blaue Reiter’. Starting this year, he also participated in exhibitions of the artist group. In 1913, Macke moved to Hilterfingen on the Lake Thun. There he created his most important works. In this place, he also met Paul Klee, with whom he undertook a trip to Tunisia in 1914. Macke's works are characterized by the preoccupation with light. They show pure, bright and harmonious colors. They feature a lightness, which does not include any tragic nature. August Macke’s artworks are exhibited in major international museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Musem of Modern Art, the Folkwang Museum, the Kunstmuseum Basel, and the Museum Ludwig and the Albertina in Vienna Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
