Large ink on board representing a witches' sabbath by Istvan Arpad Rev (Hungary 1898 - U.S.A. 1977). Approx. 17 x 22 inches unframed, 26 x 32 inches framed.Drawing is signed middle left and dated 1929 and set in a superb gilt frame. Arpad was a successful poster and print artist in Hungary, Germany, Italy and the United States.All the traditional elements associated with witches' activities in medieval times are present here: cauldron with a magic brew, the brooms, goat, black cats, bats and owls. A manis seen hanging from the gallows in the distance. Witches flying naked in the moonlit night. Eroticism. Bizarre creatures from the realm beyond.
