Alfons Walde (1891-1958) Alfons Walde was born in Tyrol in 1891. Already in secondary school he showed his artistic talent with expressionist drawings. He studied architecture at the Technical University of Vienna and painted farm houses, fields and gardens after nature. His early work recalls the art of the Vienna Secession, influenced by Klimt and Schiele. In 1913 Walde’s paintings were exhibited at the Secession. During the First World War the artist served in Tyrol and Bosnia. Then he returned to Vienna and continued his studies before settling in Kitzbühel. From 1920 onwards he exhibited his works mainly in Vienna. Walde primarily portrayed scenes from the rural life and landscapes – his Alpine motifs are nowadays highly sought after by collectors. As well, is nude studies form a significant part of his oeuvre. In 1923, Walde founded his own publishing company and marketed his oil paintings in the form of posters and postcards. He became primarily known for his posters from the 1920s and 30s, advertising Tyrol as a hub for winter sports. From 1946 onwards he dedicated himself predominantly to architecture. Many of Alfons Walde’s works are now in the Museum Kitzbühel. (cko) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
