Maxfield Frederick Parrish American, 1870-1966 (i) Barnyard Friends Watercolor and graphite pencil on paper 5 x 8 7/8 inches Provenance: Maxfield Parrish, Jr. Vose Galleries, Boston La Galeria, San Mateo, CA This work is accompanied by a letter of authenticity, dated from February 10, 1986, from Alma M. Gilbert, former curator of the Maxfield Parrish Museum. (ii) Mid-Winter, 1891 Graphite pencil on paper Inscribed 304. (lr); inscribed Sketch made by Maxfield Parrish 1891/he said 1863. The finished xerox print is attached to show/the finished product which was for the Haverford/Midwinter sports 1891. Note FMP [sic] in lower right hand corner/of the xerox print., signed Maxfield Parrish and dated 1976. on the verso 8 1/2 x 9 1/4 inches The signature on the verso is that of Maxfield Parrish, Jr. In a certificate of authentication that accompanies this lot Alma Gilbert writes that Barnyard Friends "was executed for his [i.e. the artist's] two children, Dillwyn Parrish and Maxfield Parrish Jr. aged 4 and 2 respectively in 1908. This is one of 41 drawings, most of which were made on soft brown paper and drawn during December of 1908, by Parrish to amuse and possibly to instruct his children." C
