Bohumil Eliáš Sr. was a Czech artist known for his work in glass, painting, sculpture, and graphic design. Initially inspired by Fauvism and Cubism, he developed a colorful, expressive style of his own. He notably created a large “dry” fountain for the Czechoslovak Pavilion at EXPO 67 in Montreal. Eliáš seamlessly blended painting and glass, using the latter to expand his artistic vision into three-dimensional, light-filled spaces. He was an excellent Czechoslovak / Czech representative of glass sculpture, painting and drawing. Elias Sr. earned world fame and lasting recognition for his highly original work and installations. His artistic influence on his son can be seen in Bohumil Jr.’s interest in painting, the technique of laminated glass, and the artistic styles of abstract expressionism and surrealism.
